At CES 2026, Intel Core Ultra Series 3 made its debut as the first platform built on Intel 18A, marking a major leap in computing technology. The company introduced this new generation of processors with promises of faster performance, stronger graphics, and longer battery life. Intel confirmed that laptops powered by these chips will be available later this month, with pre-orders starting January 6.

Intel described the Series 3 as its most advanced PC platform yet, designed and manufactured in the United States. More than 200 designs from global partners will feature the new processors, making them one of the most widely adopted platforms in Intel’s history. The launch signals a new era for AI-powered PCs, with Intel aiming to set new standards for efficiency and versatility.

Jim Johnson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Client Computing Group, emphasized the company’s focus on power efficiency and performance. He explained that the Series 3 adds more CPU power, a larger GPU, and stronger AI computing capabilities. Johnson also highlighted compatibility with existing applications, ensuring users can rely on the familiar x86 ecosystem.

The Series 3 lineup introduces new Intel Core Ultra X9 and X7 processors. These chips include integrated Intel Arc graphics, designed for multitaskers who demand high performance. Gamers, creators, and professionals will benefit from up to 16 CPU cores, 12 Xe-cores, and 50 NPU TOPS. Intel claims these processors deliver up to 60 percent better multithread performance, 77 percent faster gaming speeds, and as much as 27 hours of battery life. These improvements aim to redefine mobile computing by combining raw power with energy efficiency.

Alongside premium models, Intel also unveiled mainstream Core processors built on the same architecture. These chips target affordable laptops, offering improved performance and efficiency at lower price points. By expanding the range, Intel ensures that more consumers can access advanced computing without paying premium prices.

However, the Series 3 is not limited to personal computers. For the first time, Intel certified these processors for embedded and industrial use. Edge computing applications such as robotics, smart cities, automation, and healthcare will benefit from their reliability and extended temperature support. Intel designed the chips to deliver consistent performance around the clock, making them suitable for critical workloads.

Intel highlighted several benchmarks to showcase the processors’ strength in AI tasks. Large language models run up to 1.9 times faster, while video analytics achieve 2.3 times better performance per watt per dollar. Vision language action models see throughput improvements of up to 4.5 times. These gains come from integrated AI acceleration, which reduces costs by combining CPU and GPU functions into a single chip. Intel believes this approach will lower total ownership costs compared to traditional multi-chip systems.

The company also stressed the importance of global availability. Consumer laptops powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 will reach markets worldwide starting January 27, 2026. Additional designs will roll out during the first half of the year. Edge systems using the new processors are expected in the second quarter, expanding Intel’s reach into industrial and commercial sectors.
