Since adopting its micro-fulfillment strategy, Walgreens has reported a 24% year-over-year increase in prescription volume shipped through MFCs. This shift enhances accuracy and speed, contributing to improved patient outcomes.

Besides operational improvements, Walgreens’ MFCs promote environmental sustainability. In fiscal 2024, the company recycled over 3.7 million pounds of cardboard, plastic, and toner cartridges at its centers. After a brief pause to optimize the micro-fulfillment model, Walgreens is accelerating new center rollouts. CEO Tim Wentworth confirmed plans to expand the network further in the coming year, showing strong confidence in the MFC approach.
